Some article intros write themselves. In late 2023, burglars broke into Keanu Reeves’ home in the Hollywood Hills. They stole only one type of loot: six rare luxury watches, including a Rolex Submariner engraved with Reeves’ initials.

Months later, police in Santiago, Chile, found the stolen watches in a storage locker. Covered in bubble wrap, they sat next to pilfered designer handbags, smartphones, and other luxury goods. Over this period, other celebrities had not been spared.

Many of them were highly prominent athletes. In early October, Kansas City Chiefs stars Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes had their homes burglarized during NFL games.
