Four days after losing to Jake Paul in a fight billed as a comeback, Julio César Chávez Jr. was arrested by U.S. immigration agents. The charges had nothing to do with boxing, but tied to Mexico’s most powerful cartel.
According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, he is wanted in Mexico for alleged involvement in organized crime, arms trafficking, and affiliation with the Sinaloa Cartel.
What evidence is there?
It’s complicated. Chávez Jr.’s arrest stems from a dense tangle of immigration, weapons, and cartel-related allegations. On the lighter front, U.S. authorities say he overstayed a tourist visa granted in August 2023, He then attempted to secure legal residency via marriage in 2024, but his green card application allegedly contained false statements.
