FIFA’s Peace Prize Is Run by a Man Accused of Aiding Ethnic Cleansing

Myanmar tycoon Zaw Zaw has run the country's football federation for 20 years. He's also accused of helping to commit war crimes. Gianni Infantino has named him head of the Peace Prize Committee.

On December 5, the football elite will gather in Washington, D.C., for the 2026 World Cup draw. Amid the pageantry, FIFA President Gianni Infantino will unveil the inaugural winner of the FIFA Peace Prize, which is widely expected to go to U.S. President Donald Trump.

But in October 2025, FIFA appointed the man who will design the process by which future Peace Prize winners will be selected.
